Beautiful nails and skin, no matter the size and shape, are achievable with some basic good habits that start with how to care for skin and toenails.

- Poor foot hygiene or dirty feet
- Dry, inflexible skin with or without calluses and
- Badly cut toenails, either too long, or too
Good Foot hygiene
Washing and drying your feet is the number 1 action in the care for skin and toenails in your journey towards more beautiful feet. Not very techy, but certainly effective!
Washing your feet is is the first step to more attractive feet.Sounds easy, but is it? Just allowing the water to flow over your feet in the shower is easy, but really? Your feet need to be washed with soap/soap substitute and water. You need to bend down or lift each foot up and physically wash. Finding it too difficult? You may need to sit down. Wash thoroughly. The top of your foot, the back of the heel, under the foot ,across the toes too. Your feet may not appear dirty, but there will be accumulated dead skin cells on the skin surface And don’t forget, in-between the toes. Sock fluff, dead skin cells, sweat and grunge. You need to clear through each of your toes too. A small soft towel can be used.
Drying your feet when we are in a rush is pest. Yes we are always in a hurry. We dry our hair, our body, our arms then legs. Too busy to worry about our feet? Scrunch out toes in the bathmat, or just walk on the carpet back to your dressing room? Tempting, but not really good enough. If you need to, sit down on a stool, or the end of your bed and using a towel, dry all parts of your feet. Once again, dry the top, underneath, around the back of the heel, across the top of the toes and then in between and under your toes. If your towel has become quite wet, use a second, dry towel. Reaching all the way to your feet can be a bit tricky for some people. There are gadgets available.
Taking care of your Dry skin
Washing is the first step. For some people, choosing the right soap can be critical and is often overlooked in the basic care of skin and toenails. Changing to a “non-soap skin cleanser” can be life changing. Drying thoroughly is equally important. If there is still dry skin in the form of corns and callus you will need to take extra steps to remove this. ext is the use of a foot lotion or cream DAILY to keep skin supple. Regular use of the cream makes the difference—an expensive cream used sometimes doesn’t work as well as a cheap cream used regularly. More about Moisturizers for Feet
- DO NOT use cream or powder between your toes. Skin cream/powder plus sweat in between your toes will just make a gooey mush. This will look and smell BAD
Last but not least is this last step. Protect your feet from the sun. The sun will damage the sensitive skin on the top of your feet. Particularly when you are wearing open top shoes. Use at least an SPF 15 sunscreen.
Cutting your Toenails
Most people are perfectly safe to care for their own nails. Cutting nails too short can make them very unattractive. Nails need to be cut if they are uncomfortable, catching on your stockings or when there is more than 3mm of white visible at the top of the toe. Some people are very comfortable with nails that are longer than this, but they may be unattractive. After your nails have been cared for you should still have about 1mm of white visible. On average every 6-8 weeks will keep your nails looking lovely. Some people prefer the gentle, elegant art of filing, rather than cutting of the toenails.A little bit often works best. Some people like to file them for about a minute every day.Other people find that spending 5 minutes once a week is ideal. If toenail thickness is an issue have a look at Men’s toenails.
If you are worried about getting an infection or have difficult nails you can have your nails done regularly by a professional . This can be really enjoyable in the hands of the right professional.
Special consideration: Do you have diabetes? Diabetes can affect the nerves and/or blood supply to the feet. If this has happened to you, the Podiatrist/Doctor will advise you accordingly. You may require more regular Podiatry /Medical monitoring.
Care for your skin and toenails is as simple as 3 good habits. Good foot hygiene, taking care of dry skin and cutting your toenails regularly. Get into it. More beautiful feet await your efforts.
